Winter dives
In winter, bears that are still active or that overwinter later concentrate on fairies, oak acorns, and again on grasses and forbs, not forgetting rose hips. At this time of year, young bears and mated females are generally the most active.
Generally speaking, January is the quietest month. Bears reduce their activity considerably.
From February onwards, the days begin to lengthen and acorns on the ground become a highly sought-after delicacy.
This is also the rutting season for wolves. Groups split up and the young adults become independent. This is an excellent opportunity to photograph these canids.
